Why Every New Mum Deserves a Postnatal Doula
Bringing a new baby home is magical. It’s also exhausting, overwhelming, and sometimes downright lonely. That’s where a postnatal doula steps in—not to tell you how to parent, but to support you in finding your own way. Because let’s be honest, everyone and their mother (literally) will have an opinion on how you ‘should’ be doing things. But you? You’re the expert on your baby. My role as a postnatal doula is to help you feel confident in that.
What Does a Postnatal Doula Do?
A postnatal doula offers practical, emotional, and educational support in those raw, early weeks of motherhood. It’s about making sure you’re cared for while you adjust to life with your new baby. This can look different for every family, but here’s what I typically help with:
Newborn Care – Whether it’s holding the baby while you nap, helping with nappy changes, or just reassuring you that yes, babies really do make that many weird noises!
Family Adjustment – Supporting partners, older siblings, and even pets as they get used to the new family dynamic.
Infant Feeding Support – Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, mixed feeding—whatever works for you, I provide evidence-based information and encouragement.
Physical & Emotional Recovery – Birth is a huge event. I help you navigate those early post-birth days, offering gentle guidance on healing, self-care, and adjusting to your new normal.
Light Household Help – Think meal prep, keeping on top of the washing, or just making sure there’s always a hot cuppa nearby.
School Runs & Pet Care – If you’ve got older children, I can help with school drop-offs, dinner prep, or giving the dog a walk—because life doesn’t pause just because you had a baby!
Why This Support Matters
In a world where new mums are often expected to ‘bounce back’ and do it all, having someone in your corner who says “You don’t have to do this alone” can be life-changing. I’m here to hold the baby so you can shower, to remind you that your feelings are valid, and to make sure you’re eating something other than toast.
Most importantly, I help you find what works for you—not what social media, your neighbour, or even your well-meaning aunty says you ‘should’ be doing. And if there’s something beyond my scope, I’ll signpost you to trusted professionals who can help, whether that’s a lactation consultant, a pelvic health physiotherapist, or mental health support.
You Deserve This
Every new mum deserves to be nurtured as much as her newborn. If you’re feeling like you could use an extra pair of hands (and a whole lot of reassurance), a postnatal doula might just be the best investment you make in your postpartum journey. Because you were never meant to do this alone.
If this sounds like the support you need, I’d love to chat and see how I can help make those early weeks a little easier for you. You’re doing an amazing job already—let’s make sure you feel that way too.
